United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Manderson man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for engaging in a sexual act with a woman against her will.

James Shawn Jumping Eagle, age 35, was indicted by a federal grand jury on February 15, 2011, for Aggravated Sexual Abuse and Sexual Abuse. He appeared before US Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on March 3, 2011, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is any term of years up to life imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine. The charges are merely accusations, and Jumping Eagle is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The investigation is being conducted by OST-DPS and the BIA. Assistant US Attorney Carolyn G. Olson is prosecuting the case. Jumping Eagle was remanded to the custody of the US Marshal. A trial date has not yet been set.
